ZTL

Limited Traffic Zone

Bologna’s ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) covers a large area of the historic centre, where motor vehicle traffic is restricted. The zone is monitored by the Sirio electronic camera system, active every day from 7 AM to 8 PM.

Bologna’s historic centre is a Limited Traffic Zone: motor vehicles may only enter if authorised, every day from 7 AM to 8 PM, under the surveillance of the Sirio camera system. Outside these hours, access is unrestricted.

Within the ZTL there are also some areas restricted 24 hours a day. These include special pedestrian zones and particular areas such as Azzo Gardino, the University area, the San Francesco-Pratello area, Moline-Capo di Lucca, the Archiginnasio and the area of Bologna known as the T Zone (between Via Rizzoli, Via Indipendenza and Via Ugo Bassi).

How to access the ZTL

Supervised car parks and private garages inside Bologna’s ZTL can issue a permit by registering your number plate with the City’s information system, authorising access for the whole day.

Anyone can also buy a daily or four-day digital ticket. By entering the date and number plate, the ticket is registered in a database accessible to parking attendants and the Local Police, who carry out the checks.

Where to buy the ticket

Through the online shop, paying by credit card or Satispay.

Buying through the Online Shop and registering your details allows for a quick purchase and lets you manage the tickets you have bought through the Parking and Mobility Wallet.

Anyone without an Italian tax code (codice fiscale) must generate one using an online calculator, entering their personal details and using their foreign COUNTRY of birth as the place of birth (if a province is required, enter EE). Purely as an example, one of the websites for calculating your tax code is quifinanza.it.

What it allows

The daily ticket allows access to the ZTL for 1 day (for the Sirio system only, it can also be purchased after driving through the gates). The four-day ticket allows access for 4 consecutive days.

It does not allow access to the T Zone, the Azzo Gardino area, the special ZTLs of Università, San Francesco-Pratello, Moline-Capo di Lucca and Archiginnasio, pedestrian areas or bus lanes.

Cost

Daily 6 euros | Four-day 15 euros

Parking

Access to the ZTL with a ticket does not allow you to park in the blue-line bays, which remain pay-and-display. In the city centre, white-line bays are for residents only.
